Challenge

A 240-unit mixed-use project in San Jose was hit with three copper-theft incidents in five weeks during the rough-in phase. Each incident delayed the project an average of 9 days and triggered builders-risk review. The on-site daytime guard was ineffective against 2 a.m. break-ins, and SJPD calls from the existing alarm system were repeatedly deprioritized after multiple false alarms.

Solution

VuePointSecure deployed four solar camera units along the perimeter and two wired PTZs covering the material lay-down zone. AI was tuned to flag person-only events between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. U.S.-based operators were assigned to the site with custom escalation rules: live talk-down on first detection, SJPD dispatch on continued presence, and superintendent SMS within 60 seconds.

Results

  • Zero copper theft incidents in the 11 months following deployment
  • All subsequent intrusions ended within 60 seconds of live talk-down
  • Builders-risk carrier credited the policy after documented monitoring
  • Total security spend reduced ~45% vs. previous guard + alarm combination
We went from three break-ins in five weeks to none in eleven months. The talk-down works. We've moved every active project onto VuePointSecure.
